Hockey club from Italy AC Milan (Milano Rossoblu) will play in the Continental Hockey League. Such information was published on the club official website on March 4, 2011.
According to the report on the club's website, the team from Italy will play in KHL in the 2012-2013 season.
It is worth noting that "Milan", unlike its football namesake is not a leader in the national hockey championship. Currently team plays in the second division of the championship.
Anyway, the club announced that it has reached an agreement with the KHL league president Alexander Medvedev.
It is expected that during the period preceding the accession to KHL the club and sponsors will make efforts to bring the team back in the Serie A of the national hockey championship in Italy and make it a leader of the championship.
Currently in KHL are represented clubs from 4 countries: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Latvia. In the near future in the KHL will be included another new club. It is expected that it will be "Lev" from Slovakia.
In an interview with the newspaper "Soviet Sport" chairman of the Board of Directors of the Continental League, Vyacheslav Fetisov, noted that now KHL considers the possibility of expanding the league by clubs from different countries. Moreover, as possible candidates are considered clubs not only from Europe but also from Asia. In the future KHL is going to compete with NHL. Therefore, it is possible that after AC Milan in the next league seasons we will see other European clubs.
Currently in Italian hockey Serie A are 10 teams: from Bolzano, Bruneck, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Canazei, Torre Pelliche, Ritten, Alleghe and Asiago. Team bases are located in northern Italy.
