On June 2, 2011 in Rome started celebrations devoted to the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy. Festivities in honor of this memorable date will take place throughout Italy all year round. However, the parade in Rome became a kind of central event of the celebration.
40 state leaders came to Rome to congratulate Italians. Among the guests of the parade: Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, US Vice President Joseph Biden, Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, presidents of Argentina, Israel, Palestine, Armenia and other countries.
Military parade devoted to the unification of Italy is held every year in Rome. This time it was attended not only by representatives of the traditional Italian corps. Zest of the parade was the march of the Italian military units of different ages. In the parade also participated allied troops and representatives of civil professions.
At the end of the parade in the sky over Rome a group of ace pilots painted the Italian tricolor with smoke.
In connection with the military parade, authorities of the Italian capital blocked the entire historic center of Rome. The parade took place on one of the main streets of Rome - Prospect of the Emperor Forums.
In organization of the current parade took part a number of Italian companies. So, FIAT helped to escort foreign delegations on 70 new Fiat Freemonts cars, which the company developed in collaboration with the American corporation Chrysler.
A special reception for distinguished guests will be organized in the Roman Quirinal Palace this evening.
