On Wednesday, September 28, 2011 in Florence Gucci museum received its first visitors. The date of opening of the new museum was timed to the 90th anniversary of the famous Fashion House. The exposition tells about the century-long history of the brand and is organized on three floors of a medieval mansion on Piazza della Signoria (1700 square meters). The building was constructed in the XIII century for the association, which defended the interests of Florentine merchants in other European countries. But since 1994 the mansion is the GUCCI office.
The museum's exhibits not only tell about the best works of the Fashion house, but also about the main life moments of Guccio Gucci, founder of the legendary brand. Guccio Gucci began to create his company from a small shop selling bags and suitcases. Former receptionist of the London hotel "Savoy", in a few years he became a trendsetter and one of the best designers. When an American actor Sidney Poitier in the late 1970-s while travelling to Africa was asked how he felt, arrived to the home of his ancestors, he answered: "I feel it wonderfully through the soles of my Gucci shoes". Gucci brand, which then was better known for soft leather moccasins, bags and suitcases, became a synonym of style and luxury. Such movie and theater stars as Grace Kelly, Jackie Onassis, Sophia Loren, Ronald and Nancy Reagan wore bags, shoes and scarves from Gucci.
Now to the opening of the GUCCI museum arrived more than 200 VIP guests, among whom were the Princess of Monaco Charlotte Casiraghi, the main editor of the American edition "Vogue" Anna Wintour, Francois-Henri Pinault, Franca Sozzani and many others.
50% of ticket revenue will be transferred to the historic buildings restoration fund in Florence.
