Grand-Place in the floodplain

Pollein can be explored in a tangible way via the Grand-Place and its trails. The Grand-Place green space is located in the floodplain of the Dora Baltea within the municipality of Pollein. The equipped Grand-Place area covers approximately 10 hectares. A 1,300-metre circular trail runs around its perimeter and is used for jogging, running and walking. This gives you a clearly defined place for physical activity in a landscape shaped by the Dora Baltea plain. The approximately 10 hectares provide the spatial framework of the site, while the 1,300 metres represent the specified distance of one individual lap.

Trails for cycling and hiking

The Ciclovia Baltea is more than 30 kilometres long and predominantly flat. If you would like to plan a longer route with a comparatively even profile, you can use the more than 30 kilometres of the Ciclovia Baltea and its predominantly flat route as a basis. The route follows a section of the Cammino Balteo della Valle d’Aosta. In addition, the hike from Chenaux to the Château passes through a deciduous forest. For a longer cycling tour, the distance of more than 30 kilometres should be planned as a separate route section. The predominantly flat profile can be taken into account when planning breaks and daily stages.

Rock Garden: rocks of the Aosta Valley

The Rock Garden is located in Pollein’s Grand-Place Park. It contains around fifty erratic boulders representing the main rock types of the Aosta Valley. The Rock Garden has been located there since 1998. Each boulder has a small sign. It lists the name of the rock, the metamorphic environment in which it formed, the associated geological unit and its mineralogical composition. If you would like to examine the boulders individually, you can read the information on each stone.

Accessibility is also specifically described at the Rock Garden: The path at the Rock Garden is easily accessible for wheelchair users. You can therefore consider this section independently of the longer cycling and hiking routes when planning your trip and choose the type of trail that suits your stay. San Giorgio and Bataille des Reines

The parish church of San Giorgio is part of Pollein’s cultural heritage. It was rebuilt at the end of the 17th century. Every two years, a qualifying event of the Bataille des Reines takes place on the Grand Place in Pollein. Both places and events complement the landscape and trail experiences with historical and regional connections, without requiring you to limit your stay to a single way of exploring the area.
