Andrano can be discovered as a destination for culture, coast and nature. For planning your trip, it is worth noting that the destination brings together a range of experiences without being defined by a single landscape or historical period.

Historic Sites and Festivities

Castello Spinola-Caracciolo is a fortified baronial palace in the centre of Andrano. Andrano’s medieval town centre, located within the walls, is crossed by Via di Mezzo; the 16th-century Chiesa dei Domenicani stands there.

The Cripta della Madonna dell'Attarico is an ancient Basilian laura in the Serra del Mito near Andrano. Access is via two stairways and a cross-shaped opening. Inside the crypt, two wall altars with remnants of frescoes can be seen, including a depiction of the Madonna nursing a child among angels.

A path leads about 400 metres north-west to Masseria Monti, an old farm estate that has now been restored. The festival calendar is also part of the area’s distinctive character: the Festa Patronale of Madonna SS. delle Grazie in Andrano was introduced in the first half of the 19th century and takes place on 4, 5 and 6 August. It includes the Sagra della “Puccia cu le vulie”.

Coast, Caves and Marina di Andrano

Marina di Andrano has a three-kilometre stretch of coastline where cliffs alternate with small, easily accessible spots by the sea. Near Marina della Torre lies Grotta Verde, a bathing spot in a sea cave where sunlight creates emerald-green reflections.

The Lungomare delle Agavi, entirely designed for pedestrians, connects the two main bathing areas, Botte and Grotta Verde. In Marina di Andrano, Grotta della Botte has a freshwater spring fed by a small underground stream that flows into the sea there.

The landing place in Marina di Andrano consists of a slipway and two quays, each 45 metres long, and can accommodate up to 50 small fishing and pleasure boats.

Trails and Nature in Salento

The Tratturo Via Vecchia Mare hiking trail runs south-east of Andrano and connects the landscape of the municipality with the coast. The Costa Otranto – Santa Maria di Leuca e Bosco di Tricase Regional Nature Park extends across 12 coastal municipalities in Salento.

The nature park offers guided tours, educational programmes, group accommodation and leisure activities. It is therefore aimed not only at walkers, but also at travellers who want to combine nature-related interests with guided or educational experiences.

Which Location Best Suits Your Trip

When choosing a hotel or other accommodation, you can therefore first decide which focus you would like to give more space to: local history, coastal landscapes or nature activities. Andrano can thus be viewed as a destination where the right location depends on the days you have planned—not on a generalised idea of the town.
