Casalabate between Adriatic Coast and Beach Culture

Casalabate is a coastal town on the Adriatic Sea shaped by tourism. The beaches, cliffs and seafront promenade offer suitable landscapes for walks and give the town its clear connection to the water.

The beach’s history includes three rotundas known as “Lido Valentino”, “Lido Solazzo” and “Lido Mongiò”. They were considered the vibrant social centre of the beach and a central meeting place for socialising and leisure.

Events between Music, Gastronomy and Nature

The band festival “Bande a Sud – Suoni tra i due mari” took place in 2026 in Trepuzzi and at the marina of Casalabate, reaching its 14th edition. The Casalabate Food Village is also significant for the town’s cultural identity: it took place on 18, 19 and 20 August 2026 in the southern part of the market area of the marina of Trepuzzi and combined music, gastronomy and local tradition.

The “EducAmare” event also reached its eighth edition in 2025. The associated excursion led through the dune park and Mediterranean maquis; a biologist supported the participants as an expert guide. Together with the opportunities for walks along the beaches, cliffs and seafront promenade, this shows Casalabate as a place where coastal landscapes, nature observation and events appeal to different interests.

Towers and Historical Evidence by the Sea

One of the prominent architectural reference points is Torre Specchiolla. The tower stands in Casalabate a few metres from the sea and is classified as a typical coastal tower of the Regno. Its square ground plan measures approximately 11 metres on each side. Torre Specchiolla also has twelve machicolations, three on each side. You should understand the approximate dimensions as estimates when classifying the structure.

Near the Casa dell’Abate, Valentino Isceri built the first bathing establishment in 1936. This specific historical reference complements the naming of the three beach rotundas and makes visible how closely individual buildings, bathing history and social life on the beach were connected, without implying anything about present-day use or accessibility.

Practical Orientation in the Coastal Area

For on-site orientation, the market area between Litoranea Nord, della Sardina and della Triglia streets is another spatial reference point. In Casalabate, a weekly market for non-food goods was planned there as a temporary and experimental offering for twelve months. Its time-limited status is therefore part of the classification of this offering.

The accessible beach service “AbilBeach” was intended to be established in the coastal section of Località Marina di Casalabate in the municipality of Squinzano. The planned locations were the area between the Exotic and Sun Beach bathing establishments and a point north of the “Specchiolla” coastal tower.
