The coastal area is complemented by the Palude del Conte e Duna Costiera - Porto Cesareo regional nature reserve. Isola dei Conigli particularly attracts visitors with its white beach, crystal-clear water and appealing seabed. At low tide, the island can also be reached on foot.

Excursions on and by the Water

The weekly activity programme of the Parco Sommerso e Costiero di Porto Cesareo includes kayaking and SUP excursions. Guided activities in the same park are led by archaeologists from the Dipartimento di Beni Culturali of the Università del Salento. This means that active excursions and archaeologically guided activities are offered side by side.

In the Area Marina Protetta di Porto Cesareo, you can visit coastal caves as part of boat excursions. The Parco Sommerso e Costiero di Porto Cesareo also offers a walk through the archaeological area of Torre Chianca. The area is characterised by a coastal tower and traces of a past dating back to the Roman period.

Museum and Archaeology

The Museo di Biologia Marina “Parenzan” displays 900 exhibits, including fish, turtles, birds and mammals. Educational exhibitions focus on shellfish farming, fouling and the formation of Posidonia detritus balls. Porto Cesareo’s maritime focus therefore also has a vivid museum-based and natural-history dimension.

Scalo di Furno can be reached by car, on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. The archaeological site contains the remains of a sanctuary dedicated to Thalna, the Messapian goddess of childbirth. The site therefore offers several specific ways to access an archaeological testimony.
