Historic Centre and Religious Buildings
The historic centre follows a spiral-shaped layout on the hill. Its lanes are connected by tunnels and steps, giving the walk a particularly distinctive structure. The Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie, Rotondella’s mother church, stands in the historic centre. It was built in the years after 1580 and expanded from its original single-nave form between 1750 and 1755. At the entrance is a stone holy-water stoup with a snake carved into it.
The church and the Franciscan monastery of Sant'Antonio da Padova are also part of Rotondella’s history: both were built between 1650 and 1661. The Torre di Avvistamento was built in 1518 together with the Palazzo Baronale and is now the only surviving part of the old complex. Beneath the accessible area of the Bitonte family’s palace are also the Lamie di Bitonte, stone vaulted arches dating from the 17th century.
Landscape between Hills, Forest and Water
The Gole di Candela form a natural area at the foot of Monte Coppolo. Numerous waterfalls and rock strata from different geological eras shape this landscape. The regional reserves Bosco Sottano and Bosco Soprano provide a different natural setting: they are remnants of the former coastal forest of Policoro and offer a habitat for diverse wildlife.
The coastal landscape includes the beach of Marina di Rotondella. It lies along a stretch of the Ionian coast that is more than 35 kilometres long. Water sports such as sailing and underwater fishing can be practised in Marina di Rotondella. Rotondella can therefore be seen as a destination for different travel interests: the historic centre represents historic spaces and religious architecture, while nature and coastal themes provide further focal points.

A culinary speciality is U Pastizz’ R’tunnar. The product is recognised as typical by the Region of Basilicata and the responsible ministry and is one of the region’s 77 traditional products. It is a pastry filled with meat and baked in a wood-fired oven.
