Castello Fittipaldi stands prominently above the Basento Valley and the town of Brindisi Montagna.
Castello Fittipaldi is associated with an act by Frederick II concerning the maintenance of the royal castles built by the Normans. The castrum Brundesii de Montana was included in the list of 29 royal castles issued by Frederick II.

Traces of Frederick II and historic churches
The Chiesa Madre di San Nicola di Bari was completed around 1627. The Cappella di San Vincenzo is probably the oldest building in Brindisi Montagna after the castle. During Holy Week, it is the destination of various religious events. The present-day church of Maria SS. delle Grazie dates back to a chapel commissioned in 1595 and dedicated to Santa Maria Mater Misericordiae. Every year on 10 September, the chapel of the former La Grancia Abbey is visited by worshippers for the Feast of Saint Lawrence.
La Grancia and nature experiences
La Grancia originated from an old abbey dedicated to Santa Maria dell’Acqua Calda. Its name referred to a thermal spring used by the local mothers until the middle of the 20th century. The historical-rural and ecological park Parco della Grancia was established on 23 June 2000 in the Grancia state forest near Brindisi di Montagna. The park can be reached via the SS 407 Basentana/E847 and the exit towards Grancia.
Parco della Grancia offers a guided excursion to discover the park’s flora and fauna. If you are travelling with a pushchair, this area is not recommended, as the terrain can make pushing it and maintaining your balance difficult.
Re-enactments and rural knowledge
La Storia Bandita is a multimedia folk theatre production combining musical, film and theatre. The production portrays rural society and brigandage in Basilicata and southern Italy between 1799 and 1861. It lasts around one and a half hours and features 300 performers on a performance area of more than 25,000 square metres. La Falconeria is a 45-minute live theatre performance that brings to life medieval hunting practices from the milieu of Frederick II.
La Fattoria didattica welcomes school groups and other groups to teach them about the lives of grazing animals, rural work and the origins of agricultural products.
Typical products and cuisine
