Rena d’u Nastru, cliffs, Grotta di Cersuta and Skywalk Maratea

Rena d’u Nastru beach lies between the settlement of Cersuta and the rock on which the Torre Apprezzami l’Asino stands. The tower is located on a sea-facing rocky cliff beside a bend in the former SS 18. This section of road was abandoned after a tunnel was built. Thus, within a manageable stretch of coast, a settlement, pebble beach, rocky cliff and traces of an older road alignment come together.

Another landscape feature is the Grotta di Cersuta, which is also known as Grotta della Provvidenza. It lies above Rena d'a Carruba; a freshwater spring rises inside the cave. The Skywalk Maratea is a suspended terrace in Cersuta di Maratea on the SS 18 near the place known as Apprezzami l’Asino. From the Skywalk, visitors can see the cliffs of Maratea and the Gulf of Policastro.

Chiesa della Madonna Addolorata and the protected Torre Apprezzami l’Asino

The Chiesa della Madonna Addolorata is located in the oldest part of the Cersuta di Maratea district and was built in the 17th century. Its architecture is simple and designed in the 18th-century style; lateral arches serve as side chapels. Above the main altar is a fresco painted in the 19th century by an anonymous artist, depicting Christ on the cross with Mary and Mary Magdalene. The church also contains a painted wooden statue of the Madonna Addolorata dating from 1899. The Torre Apprezzami l’Asino in the Cersuta district has been protected as a cultural heritage site under a decree dated 3 May 1997.
