Forenza lies in the Vulture area on a hill in the Bradano Valley, north of the Lucanian Apennines. Historic Traces in the Town
Via dell’Anima is decorated with ceramics on the theme of poetry. Along Forenza’s historic streets, remains of the 13th-century Mura Angioine have also been incorporated into buildings. The ruins of the church and the remains of the Santa Maria de’ Armeniis monastery date from the 11th and 12th centuries.
Casa Contadina and Local Religious Sites
Casa Contadina comprises four rooms: the actual living area, the stable, the cellar and the hayloft. It is a reconstruction of a traditional farmhouse dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The site thus conveys a concrete picture of rural spatial organization without requiring an abstract classification.
The Santuario del SS. Crocifisso lies between the forests of the Vulture on the edge of Forenza’s historic center. The Santuario houses a valuable crucifix attributed to Fra Angelo da Pietrafitta. Every year, the Santuario attracts numerous pilgrims, particularly during the local celebrations on May 3 and September 14.

Another fixed date in the annual calendar is the historical reenactment “La Leggenda dei Templari, Ugo dei Pagani e la sfida del mito,” which takes place in Forenza every year on August 16. The fixed dates fall in May, August and September and can serve as concrete reference points when planning the timing of a stay. Together with the Santuario, Via dell’Anima and the medieval traces, they create a cultural profile that combines religious, historical and artistic themes.
