For hikers who want to explore the landscape on foot, the Malacoccola promontory and the Torre di Sant’Elia offer two specific destinations. These two routes place the area within a landscape where specific trails and distinctive terrain features shape the character of the experience.

Practical planning for the trail

There is no drinking water along this trail. If you plan to take this route, you should carry at least 2 litres of water per person and take the amount into account before setting out. You should therefore not assume that water will be available along the way. This specific preparation applies to the route to Punta Sant’Elia and not generally to every route in Colli di Fontanelle.

The trail passes through chestnut woods and garrigue, a Mediterranean landscape with low, bushy vegetation rich in seasonal flowers, scents and colours. A trail to Punta Sant’Elia leads from the Belvedere near the main square of the Rione Colli di Fontanelle. In the area itself, Piazza Carlo Sagristani is the social centre of Colli di Fontanelle. The name of the area also contains a historical trace: “cuónti” referred locally to the devices used for quail hunting, while “fontanelle” refers to the natural springs that once shaped the area and made it fertile and lush. Alongside the landscape, these references give your exploration an insight into the area’s historical character.

A road route leads from Vico Equense via the SS145 to Piano di Sorrento, then via the SS163 and again the SS145 to Colli di Fontanelle. The sequence via Piano di Sorrento, the SS163 and the SS145 makes it easier to find your way from Vico Equense when travelling individually to Colli di Fontanelle. These roads and places form a clearly recognisable sequence to Colli di Fontanelle.
