The church excavated at Masseria Pagano was a single-nave, single-apse religious building with a floor area measuring 7.5 by 15 meters and frescoed walls. Single-apse means that the building had one apse; together with the single-nave layout and the frescoes, this gives a precise impression of its architectural form.

Seven graves in the nave and eleven more in the side rooms of the Church of Masseria Pagano were examined. The finds considered particularly old were dated to the 6th and 7th centuries AD.

The Via Santa as a Historical Reference

The church at the archaeological site near Masseria Pagano stood along the early medieval “Via Santa.” The road connected the basilican complex of Cimitile with Avellino.

Spraghera and the Landscape

The Spraghera mountain massif separates the municipalities of Tufino and Visciano.
