Fratta Terme: Thermal History, Nature and Italian Delights

Fratta Terme brings together thermal history, rationalist architecture, nature experiences and regional products within a compact thematic area. The town therefore appeals to different travel interests: you can explore a historic thermal complex, put a stage of the Via Romea Germanica into context or look for activities ranging from treetop courses to local specialities. Thermal History and Rationalist Architecture

The thermal spa of Fratta Terme was built in the 1930s in the rationalist architectural style. The Parco delle Terme was also created during that decade as an addition to the thermal complex, which opened during the same period. Another architectural highlight is the Grand Hotel in Fratta Terme. It is considered a clear example of rationalist architecture. Because of this building, the municipality of Bertinoro is a member of the ATRIUM – Architecture of Totalitarian Regimes of the XXth century in Europe's Urban Memory route, which has been certified as a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe since 2014.

Thermal Springs and Park

The thermal water of the Terme della Fratta rises from 11 springs and forms 7 different combinations of mineral salts. In the Parco delle Terme, there are also seven thermal springs with saline, salt-bromine-iodine, magnesium-rich, arsenic-rich, sodium-chloride-rich, iron-rich and sulphurous water.

For a current stay, you must take the closures into account: the thermal centre of Fratta Terme is currently closed until further notice. The Parco delle Terme is currently closed due to damage caused by the flooding. The historical significance of the thermal spa and the park's location in the centre of Fratta Terme should nevertheless be considered separately as points of reference for exploring the town.

Hiking and Treetop Activities

Stage 24c of the Via Romea Germanica ends in Fratta Terme. For active excursions, two adventure options are also prominent: Indiana Park Terme della Fratta offers acrobatic treetop courses as well as sports and recreational facilities. Around Adventures in Fratta Terme has 16 high-rope courses at heights of more than 20 metres above the ground. Strawberry Festival and Regional Products

The traditional Sagra della Fragola takes place every year around mid-May in the Parco della Fratta. At the festival, strawberries are sold at numerous stalls at cost price. There are also strawberry desserts, strawberry cocktails and organic products from the local food scene. The combination of a seasonal festival, parkland and regional cuisine forms another aspect of Fratta Terme, even though the park is currently closed.

The culinary side also includes Tenuta Canali: the winery produces wines from the Sangiovese and Albana grape varieties. Together with the strawberry products, this creates a regional thematic thread that complements cultural and nature interests with a gastronomic perspective.
