Longiano reveals its character above all where art, local history and a medieval village come together in the same destination. The Castello Malatestiano is now permanently home to the Fondazione “Tito Balestra” Onlus. Its collection comprises around 2,300 paintings, graphic works and sculptures. This gives you a cultural focus that takes a visit to Longiano beyond the village itself.

The Museo d'Arte Sacra is housed in the Oratorio di S. Giuseppe Nuovo. It preserves works of art and sacred objects, including furnishings, liturgical vestments, relics and votive offerings. The combination of art and the history of everyday religious life makes this place an independent part of exploring Longiano's culture.

A broader view of the region opens up at the Museo del Territorio. It houses around 6,000 different finds from Longiano and the wider Romagna. The exhibition is organised according to traditional occupations and women's work; the areas covered include domestic life, weaving and childcare. Here, you encounter not only individual objects but also themes from former working and family life.

The historic village also includes the Rifugio Bellico, which runs through the entire medieval village of Longiano beneath the tuff stone ground. The Museo Italiano della Ghisa offers a completely different approach to cultural history. Its exhibition comprises around sixty lanterns manufactured by major 19th-century foundries and explains the casting process.

Programme and Seasonal Highlights

The Teatro Petrella offers a varied programme of theatre, singer-songwriters, cabaret, workshops, stages and artistic productions. This means that, alongside the museums, contemporary cultural life also has a place in Longiano. A special seasonal occasion is the Grande Presepe Meccanico in the monastery of the Santuario del Santissimo Crocifisso. It is held every year, usually from the first days of December until the end of January, and is considered Longiano's oldest and most traditional nativity scene.

Blossom Season, Cycling Route and Circular Trail

Even beyond the museums and venues, Longiano offers clear seasonal and scenic points of interest. The numerous orchards around the centre display carpets of white and pink blossoms in the first weeks of March. The Percorso Cicloturistico Lungo di Longiano is around 55 km long. In addition, an extensive circular trail leads through the entire municipal territory of Longiano.
