Church and Living Memory

Sala di Cesenatico brings together religious history, personal memory and practical routes through the landscape. The Church of Santa Maria di Sala holds a special status: on 24 February 1952, it was elevated to the diocesan sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary.

Angelina Pirini in Sala

The life of Angelina Pirini is also closely connected with Sala. She was born in Celle di Sala on 30 March 1922. Her restored home is now the headquarters of the “Amici di Angelina” association. Since 25 March 2001, her mortal remains have rested in a sarcophagus at the altar of Santa Maria Goretti in the Church of Sala. The church, home and memorial site thus provide a perspective closely tied to Sala on a person whose traces can be seen at several specific places in the locality.

Monuments on Via Campone

Via Campone also leads to two different forms of local remembrance. The “Cippo Caduti per la Pace” monument is located in Sala di Cesenatico on Via Campone. On the same street stands the “A tutti i Cavalieri” monument at Via Campone Sala 367. The monument includes a horse-shaped statue with a plaque beside it. The plaque lists the regiments, battles and campaigns in which the cavalrymen of Sala took part during the Second World War. “A tutti i Cavalieri” was erected on 27 October 2013.

Cycle Routes between Cesenatico and Cesena

For an active day plan, Sala offers several cycling routes as starting points. The Ciclovia del Pisciatello runs for 15 kilometres along the Pisciatello River and connects Cesenatico with Cesena. Sala di Cesenatico also has a bicycle repair station. The Memorial Pantani route also passes through the locality. Those who wish to explore Sala by bicycle can therefore choose between a riverside connection and a route with a sporting and historical dimension, while still keeping the area's cultural sites in view.

Historic Buildings and Events

The former Villa Romagnoli is part of the area's architectural history. Sala's historic primary school had been housed there for decades. Another part of the locality's history is the “Torneo delle Vie”, held annually in Sala from the late 1970s to the late 1990s. For 2026, the “Torneo delle Vie” was planned as a football tournament with nine-a-side teams at Sala's municipal sports ground. The former series of events and the planned edition belong to different points in time and should therefore be considered separately.

Local Flavours

The “Sagra della Porchetta” adds a culinary touch. This event places traditionally produced porchetta at the centre.
