Historical traces and expansive views
Tizzano Val Parma combines medieval ruins, a distinctive religious building and trails through the mountain landscape. The Rocca di Tizzano also shapes the town’s historic character. It was severely damaged by the 1834 earthquake, is now in ruins and has been partially restored as a performance space. The two ruin sites represent different historical traces: at the Castello, remains have survived within the town, while the Rocca derives its present character from the damage, ruins and partial restoration as a performance space.
The Pieve di San Pietro
The Pieve di San Pietro is a Romanesque Catholic religious building. It stands alone on a hill and overlooks a wide surrounding area. Its massive façade tower serves both as a bell tower and as an entrance. The Pieve was probably rebuilt between the 11th and 12th centuries with three naves ending in semicircular apses facing east. This building therefore brings together distinctive architecture, an elevated setting and a long history of development.
Its features include an old baptismal font. During the restoration completed in 1964, traces of 15th-century frescoes were also uncovered. The Pieve di San Pietro is considered free of architectural barriers. In addition, a panoramic trail starts at Piazzale Noè Bocchi in Schia and follows the slopes of Monte Caio for approximately 8 kilometres. The Via dei Linari is a hiking trail of medium difficulty. Monte Fuso lies on the border between Tizzano Val Parma and Neviano degli Arduini. It is suitable for day hikes with a focus on nature and panoramic views.
