Art, Castles and Religious Sites

The Chiesa di San Bernardino is a 17th-century church that houses notable works of art. The Torre Farnese is a massive fortification outside San Bernardino; it was intended to protect Bettola from Caminata. This gives you a cultural perspective that places sacred art and the historic defensive function of a fortification side by side.

The surviving building of the Castello di Cianeto is a remnant of the old castle, which dates back at least to 1300 and belonged to the Nicelli family. The old castle thus brings a long history and its connection with the Nicelli family into focus. Landscape Between Waterfall and Mountain

The Cascate del Perino are a waterfall in the area around Bettola. Monte Osero is a mountain in the area around Bettola; Monte Dinavolo is also a mountain in the area around Bettola. This gives you a range of landscapes that brings together waterfalls and mountain forms as distinct natural features.

The Valle del Restano is rugged, sparsely populated and particularly scenic. Its ruggedness, sparse population and scenic character define the valley and give the landscape a distinctive character.

The Bettola area has CAI trails and trekking routes with varying levels of difficulty. If you want to plan hiking days according to your experience or the challenge you are looking for, you can take these differences into account. There are also walking routes and old mule tracks for hiking, horse riding, cycling and mountain biking. The range therefore extends from classic hikes to activities on two wheels or horseback.

The eight new “itinerari bettolesi” have a broader regional dimension. They include the Bettola area and are connected to trails in Ponte dell’Olio, Farini and Ferriere. Together, they form a trail network of approximately 560 km. If you would like to consider the local landscape together with a trail system connected to other towns, this connection is one of the defining themes around Bettola.

Culture and Devotion

The Madonna della Quercia – Apparition Chapel remains a destination for devotion and pilgrimages. The Castello di Groppo Ducale houses the Punti di Luce cultural centre, which promotes initiatives including the Concorso Letterario delle Valli Piacentine. Bettola’s cultural offering therefore extends from religious practice to literary initiatives.
