The Sanctuary and its architectural history
The Asilo pro Caduti in Roveleto, Via Emilia 177–179, is protected under Part II of Italian Legislative Decree 42/04, the Codice dei Beni Culturali e del Paesaggio. Access to the Santuario della Beata Vergine del Carmelo is from the road and is free of architectural barriers. Construction of the actual church began in 1750 as a central-plan building. Its late Baroque façade is divided into two orders by grouped pilasters. Castello di Cadeo and a painting on Via Emilia
The surviving façade of the Castello di Cadeo has been substantially altered. The Castello di Cadeo dates back approximately to the year 1300. The former church of San Pietro Apostolo is attached to the Castello di Cadeo. Near Roveleto, in 1676, Francesco Maria Tadini Albrici commissioned Pietro Martire to paint an image of Madonna del Carmelo between Saint Joseph and Saint Francis of Assisi in a niche on Via Emilia.
Architecture in the surrounding area
In the area around Roveleto stands the Palazzo Fortificato di Zamberto, a Baroque fortified villa with four corner towers of different sizes. Within its enclosed grounds is an oratory with a polygonal floor plan, topped by a slender lantern. Villa Visconti is also known as Castello and Palazzo di Tornora and is a large 15th-century building complex. The complex includes an enclosed courtyard, attached service buildings and an oratory. The loggia with its four arches and the courtyard are considered unusable.
Piazzetta del Pellegrino and getting your bearings locally
Behind Cadeo Town Hall, the Piazzetta del Pellegrino was upgraded as part of the “Francigena in Comune” project to involve residents and pilgrims. Its entrance and parking area are accessible to wheelchair users. Together with the access to the sanctuary, which is free of architectural barriers, the piazzetta provides specific points of reference when you plan your visits around different needs.
Cycling, hiking and an event
Roveleto has an e-bike charging station where several e-bikes can be charged simultaneously; it is intended for both urban cyclists and cycling tourists. A hike announced by the municipality leads from Roveleto di Cadeo towards Fiorenzuola d’Arda. The Fiera dell’Agricoltura, dell’Industria e dell’Artigianato of Roveleto di Cadeo reached its 46th edition in 2026 and took place on 11 and 12 April 2026.
