Culture among wine, crafts and a medieval townscape

The Museo della Vite e del Vino Fernando Pizzamiglio has a library containing approximately 1,100 volumes on wine and viticulture. It also houses documents dating from the 14th to the 20th century. An interactive tour begins outside Vigolzone, passes through the winery and ends at the library. When planning this tour, its starting point outside Vigolzone must therefore be taken into account.

The historic centre of Grazzano Visconti was designed around the castle in an authentic medieval style and can be visited free of charge every day. Its craft tradition includes wrought-iron, ceramic and woodwork. The park of the Castello di Grazzano Visconti covers 12 hectares.

In Vigolzone itself, the Rocca Anguissola is also known as the Castello di Vigolzone. The complex has a rectangular layout and two towers at opposite corners. The Castello di Vigolzone remains privately owned; it can be viewed from the gate, while its towers can be seen from the piazza in front. An oratory dating from the 17th century is opened on special occasions.

Cycling and walking trails through the Nure landscapes

Le Antiche Vie comprises seven combined cycling and walking trails in the municipality of Vigolzone. Percorso 1 – Verde can be completed on foot or by mountain bike without any special preparation. Percorso 4 – Rosso begins in Grazzano Visconti, climbs the hill of Vigolzone and returns to the medieval borgo via the ancient road of the mills. When planning the route, the climb to the hill must therefore be considered part of this trail.

Percorso 5 – Arancio also follows the ancient road of the mills and the bed of the Nure River. The trail passes through a protected floodplain that provides a habitat for numerous wild animals. In addition, the nature trails in Val Nure-Val Chero pass through Vigolzone and connect the town with Carpaneto, San Giorgio Piacentino, Podenzano and Ponte dell’Olio.

Wine landscape and local speciality

With its vineyard-covered hills and landscapes shaped by wineries, Vigolzone is part of the Strada dei vini e dei sapori dei colli piacentini. Tortelli con la coda has been a De.Co. product of the municipality of Vigolzone since 2006. The Festa del tortello De.Co. takes place in Vigolzone every year at the end of July.
