Cannuzzo on the Savio: River Park, Culture and Cycle Paths
Accommodation in Cannuzzo
Cannuzzo between the Savio landscape and Baldassari
Cannuzzo combines the river landscape of the Savio with the literary legacy of Tolmino Baldassari. Baldassari lived between Castiglione di Cervia and Cannuzzo; the Savio River was a source of inspiration for him there for many years. The now-active Associazione Tolmino Baldassari is based in the poet’s former home in Cannuzzo di Cervia. It is dedicated to making his life and work known and enhancing their recognition. Also located in Cannuzzo di Cervia is the Casa Museo di Tolmino Baldassari, directly next to the Parco fluviale del Savio.
The Parco fluviale di Cannuzzo
The Parco fluviale di Cannuzzo was created through a project to restore and enhance the floodplains of the Savio River. At the same time, it was designed as a recreational area and as a cycle connection between the coast of Cervia and the hills of Cesena. This combination of landscape, recreation and movement defines the park’s importance for exploring the area around Cannuzzo.
All access points to the Parco fluviale di Cannuzzo are located on Via Salara provinciale and are marked by informative stone totems. The park offers a shaded rest area with tables, benches and barbecue facilities. Six poetic benches add to the experience: they feature verses from poems by Tolmino Baldassari in dialect and additionally in Italian.
Walking or cycling along the Savio
The Savio foot and cycle path runs along the river embankment for approximately 7 km. It passes through the surrounding countryside and the rural settlement of Castiglione. At an entrance to the Parco Fluviale di Cannuzzo near the Santuario della Madonna degli Angeli, you can park outside the park and continue on foot or by bicycle along a riverside path to Castiglione. The approximate route length and the combination of natural surroundings and settlement make this path a clearly defined component of your planning.
Sacred art and architecture
The Santuario della Madonna degli Angeli is particularly known for a magnificent 16th-century fresco depicting the Virgin Mary surrounded by angels. At the same time, it is considered a typical 17th-century church. The floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross; inside, there is a single nave and two side chapels.
The Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli in Cannuzzo di Cervia dates back to the early 17th century. Together with the Casa Museo, the Associazione Tolmino Baldassari and the poetic benches, it connects the memory of Baldassari with the public space along the Savio in Cannuzzo in various ways.
