Ramiseto offers views of both the landscape of Monte Ventasso and a rich architectural heritage. The village itself preserves a historic center with buildings typical of mountain architecture. In the surrounding area, churches, portals and the few remaining walls of former fortifications add to the picture. This creates a journey combining nature, walks and cultural-historical exploration.

Landscape and Trails on Monte Ventasso
The Monte Ventasso area lies only partly within the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park. Extensive beech forests and largely abandoned chestnut groves shape the landscape. Near the summit, grassland and blueberry stands alternate with rocky outcrops. Rare rock vegetation grows on these rocks, adding a distinctive natural accent to the mountain landscape.
The Monte Ventasso hiking route partly follows the ancient Via Parmesana. Its historic ducal boundary ran between Ramiseto and Collagna. For a shorter outing, the Percorso Natura Lago Calamone is an option in the surrounding area: the easy circular trail is less than 3 km long and can also be walked with a stroller. The different trail characteristics make it easier to plan your day around your preferred walking distance.
Historic Center of Ramiseto
In the center of Ramiseto, a distinctive elevated defensive entrance to the residential area is visible. Its lintel bears the year 1495. In a niche facing the road to the Enza Valley, there is also a valuable sacred image made of Apuan marble, dated 1775. A building of notable architectural-historical interest illustrates the architectural models used in the upper Reggio Apennines in the 15th century.
The settlement of Ramiseto developed in tiers around the 13th-century Church of Saints Cyprian and Justina. In the Miscoso district of the municipality of Ramiseto stands the 17th-century Church of San Giacomo. Both churches are historic reference points where the development and religious architecture of the village can be traced.
Gazzolo, Cecciola and Nigone
Gazzolo lies near the site of the former “delle gazze” castle, of which only a few ruins remain. The church of Gazzolo was built in 1637. The village also has two tower houses that complement its architectural character.
Cecciola preserves a highly varied historic center with numerous arched passageways, courtyards and loggias. A dense network of small paved paths connects these elements. The church of Cecciola is dedicated to Maria Assunta and has an elaborately crafted stone portal dated 1885. The oldest portal recorded to date in Cecciola bears the year 1592.
In Nigone, the ancient Rocca delle Tegge has now been reduced to a few damaged walls. An access mule track leads along the northern slope of the hill to the Rocca delle Tegge building. Historical traces therefore also await you outside the historic center, although their present extent is clearly limited.
Information for Excursions and Arrival
The Valle dei Cavalieri route passes by Parco della Flora. There you will find an equipped picnic area and a network of marked trails for a short walk. From Ramiseto, Lago Calamone can be reached via the SP 102 to the village of Ventasso Laghi, followed by an approximately 15-minute walk along an ascending forest road. From Reggio Emilia, the journey follows the SS 63 to the turnoff for Ramiseto and then continues along the SP 15.
