Motorsport, History and Sacred Art
A particular focus is La Storia del Sic, a gallery and museum about the racing achievements and life of motorcyclist Marco Simoncelli outside motor racing. The exhibition comprises three themed rooms and displays more than 15 helmets and 12 racing suits. La Fiamma del Sic is also an installation in the form of a kind of cannon. Every Sunday evening at dusk, it shoots a three-metre-long flame for exactly 58 seconds.
The Castello Malatestiano di Coriano was already one of the important fortifications in the Rimini area in the 11th and 12th centuries. The Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta was inaugurated on 13 September 1953. Inside, there is a wooden crucifix from the 13th century; a festival is also held there every three years on the third Sunday in September. Next to the church is the Museo Elisabettiano. It is dedicated to Blessed Elisabetta Renzi, the founder of the Maestre Pie dell’Addolorata order. Telephone reservations are recommended for this museum.
The CORTE Coriano Teatro also has a historical connection: the building dates from the 19th century, survived the war and retains its historic exterior. Another place of remembrance is the English War Cemetery in Coriano, with 1,939 graves of soldiers of various nationalities.
Hiking Among River Valleys, Castles and Vineyards
The Parco Fluviale del Marano stretches along the Marano River basin through the section belonging to the municipality of Coriano. For a specific hike, the PERCORSO ESCURSIONISTICO CAI031 is a good option. The route is 10.5 km long, has an elevation gain of 362 metres and is classified by the CAI as a T hiking trail. It starts at Parco del Marano, where there is a car park, rest areas and a kiosk providing refreshments.
Along the way, the CAI031 offers wide-ranging views over the Marano Valley and towards the hinterland between the castles of Montescudo, Gemmano, Montefiore and Saludecio. Those wishing to combine landscapes and wine-growing can follow the scenic Circuito delle cantine – Passano loop through the Coriano countryside. The route passes several wineries and runs near Podere Bianchi, Tenuta Santini and Azienda Agricola biologica Valle delle Lepri. These wine producers make outstanding regional products.
Cycling Route and Regional Specialities
For cycling travellers, the Tour dei Campioni is an interesting option. It is a permanent cycling route connecting Tavullia, Morciano, Montescudo/Monte Colombo, Coriano, Misano Adriatico and Gradara. Coriano is therefore also part of a larger network of places that can be explored by bicycle.
The Fiera dell’Oliva takes place in November and offers local specialities. The event thus complements the wine and landscape themes with a seasonal insight into regional cuisine.
