Nature and Regional Insights in Andreis

Andreis can be explored through a variety of interests. At the Centro visite di Andreis, the “L’Avifauna del Parco” exhibition displays more than 200 preserved bird specimens. The Centro visite also has a classroom, a natural history laboratory, and a room for projections and conferences.

Valley History at the Museo dell’Arte e Civiltà Contadina

The Museo dell’Arte e Civiltà Contadina di Andreis opened to the public in July 1981 in the former town hall next to the square. It preserves and displays objects representing the daily life and work of the Valcellina Valley community from the late 19th century to the middle of the 20th century. The focus is therefore not only on individual objects, but also on the everyday life of a rural community across several generations.

The local craft traditions documented by the museum include wool processing and the making of Scarpets. The exhibition also addresses haymaking, the processing of milk on the mountain pastures, and forestry work. The Italian term Scarpets refers to a specific part of the traditional everyday and working culture. Together with the exhibits, this provides insight into the activities, materials and routines that shaped life in the Valcellina Valley.

Signposted Trails Around Andreis

The Nordic Life Park around Andreis comprises around eight specially signposted trails for Nordic Walking. The “San Daniele del Friuli” route is easy, scenic and ethnographically oriented, and is suitable for everyone. It therefore combines a manageable sporting activity with views of the landscape and regional connections. The “Scout alto” route offers another perspective: it features a viewpoint overlooking Andreis and the Periadriatic Fault.

The “Anello di Forcella Antracisa e Monte Taront da Andreis” route passes the Centro Visite of the Parco delle Dolomiti Friulane. At Monte Ciavac, the trail leads through the geological context of the Periadriatic Thrust System. The Periadriatic Thrust System is also known as the Barcis-Staro-Selo Line and is a prominent tectonic fault line.

Bird Aviaries and Churches

Above Andreis, the aviaries house goshawks, kestrels, buzzards, long-eared owls, sparrowhawks, a goshawk and a golden eagle. The Chiesa di San Daniele in Monticello was built around 1723. A path lined with fir trees leads to this church, which was a pilgrimage destination for people from throughout the valley for centuries.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale S. Maria delle Grazie was built between 1662 and 1670 on the site of an earlier building dating from around 1525.
