Barcis between Lake and Gorge

Barcis can be explored through Lago di Barcis and the Forra del Cellina. At Lago di Barcis, visitors can sail, surf, canoe and kayak. At the same time, the Riserva Naturale Forra del Cellina also includes territory in Barcis.

Nature and Orientation in the Town

The visitor centre of the Riserva Naturale Forra del Cellina is located in Barcis, in the Ponte Antoi district, and houses a themed exhibition about the nature reserve. If you would also like to learn about the Forra del Cellina through its protected-area themes, the visitor centre provides a specific point of reference for this.

Palazzo Centi stands beside Lago di Barcis. The building dates from the 16th century, has a representative double loggia and is now equipped as a hotel.

Trails, Water and Breaks at Lago di Barcis

Several scenic trails run around Lago di Barcis; there are also picnic areas. This combination can be turned into a varied day plan: you can combine a section of trail with a break by the lake. At the same time, Lago di Barcis remains the place for sailing, surfing, canoeing and kayaking.

The tunnel of the Vecchia Strada della Valcellina was closed in 1992 and is now reserved for cyclists and pedestrians. If you choose between cycling and walking, this current designation is one of the practical details for planning your day.

The mountain Monte Lupo lies in the vicinity of Barcis. This means that the scenic options around the town extend beyond the lake and gorge.

Viewpoints at the Forra del Cellina

The Skywalk del Dint is a footbridge suspended above the Forra del Cellina, accessible via the Sentiero del Dint. The Sentiero del Dint also leads to a third viewpoint with a steel structure. From there, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the pre-Alpine valley system of Andreis and Barcis, as well as the gorge. Anyone walking the Sentiero del Dint reaches both the footbridge and the third viewpoint.

The Tibetan bridge over the Forra del Cellina is suspended 55 metres above the gorge. It offers a view of the gorge and the emerald-green waters of the stream. The height and the colour of the water give this structure its own distinctive landscape motif for planning your excursion.

A Culinary Connection to the Valley

Petuccia is a sausage made from sheep meat that was patented in the valley. If, alongside trails, water and viewpoints, you would also like to consider regional products during your trip, Petuccia is a specific term to include in your culinary planning.
