Brugnera: Villa Varda, Churches and Festa del Vino

Villa Varda and its architectural history

Villa Varda is a Venetian villa in the hamlet of Villa Varda in the municipality of Brugnera. The Oratorio della Vergine del Carmine was built in 1670 on behalf of Fabio Mazzoleni and dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The architect Domenico Rupolo restored the Oratorio in neo-Gothic forms.

The grounds also contain the restored Canevon, which now serves as a venue for chamber concerts, conferences and small exhibitions. Villa Varda also offers the opportunity to enjoy relaxing walks. This site therefore brings together architectural details, sacred history, a modern event venue and time spent outdoors.

Frescoes, baptismal fonts and sacred art

In Tamai, the Chiesa di Santa Margherita preserves traces of frescoes dating from 1498. For better preservation, the frescoes were removed from the façade and placed on a panel inside the church. The nineteenth-century church in Maron has a baptismal font dating from 1537, created by the stonemason Matteo da Fontanelle.

The Chiesa San Cassiano was restored in the neo-Gothic style in 1951. Its interior also contains an eighteenth-century altarpiece attributed to Sebastiano Valvassori, who came from Sacile. Casa Porcia is now called Brenelli and was built in the seventeenth century on the site of one of the oldest castles in the province. This castle guarded the crossing over the Livenza.
