Cordenons: Sacred Art and Routes Between Springs and Rivers

Sacred Art and Historic Architecture

The Chiesetta di San Giacomo features a 15th-century fresco cycle. The Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore is neoclassical; its construction began in 1778 and was completed in the first half of the 19th century. Both places offer different perspectives on the sacred architecture of Cordenons.

The Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore also houses an altarpiece by G. Narvesa from the 17th century. It depicts the Trinity with San Valentino, San Floriano, a holy bishop and the faithful. In the Duomo di Cordenons, the Zanin company built an organ in 1939, which is regarded as an important example of Cecilian organ building.

The organ serves various associations that organize singing events and concerts in the church. The instrument is therefore connected not only with its construction history, but also with the musical community life of the church.

Other Historic Places

The Chiesa di San Pietro in Cordenons houses a panel triptych from 1551. The Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista is located northwest of Cordenons town center on the road to San Quirino. Villa Badini Pasqualini was formerly the summer residence of the aristocratic Badini family.

Resurgence Springs and River Landscapes

The Risorgive del Vinchiaruzzo are partly recognized as the European protected area ZSC IT3310010 and are included in the bird protection area ZPS IT3311001 Magredi di Pordenone.

An excursion to the Risorgive del Vinchiaruzzo leads from the last terraces of Cordenons to the wetlands of Vinchiaruzzo, continues to the riverbed of the Meduna and returns via the historic road at the lower ford, which once connected Cordenons with Murlis.

Cycling Routes with Different Distances

The Lungo il fiume Noncello route begins at Piazza della Vittoria in the center of Cordenons and leads near Via Cortina to the first visible traces of the Noncello. It is 15.7 km long in total and extends to the confluence of the Noncello and Meduna near Visinale di Prata.

The Per magredi e risorgive route is suitable for bicycles and mountain bikes and connects Cordenons with the extensive spring area between Cansiglio, the Longone ridge and the hill of Sarone, Palù del Livenza. It also offers wide-ranging views stretching for many kilometers to distant mountain peaks, as well as a landscape of contrasts with blue skies, gray gravel areas and green and reddish groups of trees and shrubs.

An Autumn Festival with Pumpkin

The Festa delle zucche was an autumn festival in Cordenons. The pumpkin took center stage in the form of decorations and regional culinary specialties, as well as in cultural, recreational and entertainment activities. Every year, a particularly long pumpkin cake was also prepared and shared with visitors.
