Polcenigo combines impressive architecture with spring landscapes and paths through a varied surrounding area. Palazzo Scolari-Salice features an Italian garden with paths, hedges and rare centuries-old trees. The garden combines orderly elements with a stock that has developed over a long period of time. Palazzo Fullini-Zaia stands in Piazza Plebiscito, an imposing building with rusticated arches, trifore windows and original mascarons.

Water, Wetlands and Gardens

A defining natural feature is the Gorgazzo spring, also known by the dialect name “el buso”. It is an underwater cave where the Gorgazzo stream of the same name originates. The Fontaniva spring basins, on the other hand, form a landscape of stretches of water and small ponds scattered among the vegetation. The landscape therefore alternates between open water surfaces and vegetated areas in between.

The area of the Palù di Livenza pile-dwelling site also has a pronounced natural character. Various species of marsh birds and hygrophilous plants, meaning plants bound to moist habitats, find their habitat there. In Parco Rurale San Floriano, the view opens onto 65 hectares of permanent meadows, woodland, a traditional garden and a synergistic garden, orchards, and a medicinal plant garden. Hiking and Cycling around Polcenigo

The circular hiking trail “10 Mila Passi di Salute FVG – Polcenigo” combines several different landscape impressions. It follows the Livenza River and runs alongside the UNESCO pile-dwelling site area of “Palù di Livenza”. A nature-oriented variant crosses the Rui de Brosa and then follows the left bank of the Gorgazzo beneath dense tree cover via a footbridge.

The same trail reaches the Gorgazzo spring via a footpath and then continues into the historic center of Polcenigo.

The surrounding area can also be explored by bicycle. The 28.3 km cycling loop “Anello di Sacile e del Gorgazzo” leads to Polcenigo via the La Santissima spring.

Culture, Crafts and Regional Impressions

The church of Santissima Trinità stands a few meters from the spring. It was rebuilt and expanded in the 16th century. The Museo dell'Arte Cucinaria offers another perspective on local history, commemorating generations of chefs who emigrated all over the world.

The Sagra dei sést takes place on the first Sunday in September as a festival celebrating baskets as well as willow branches, rushes and bast. The materials—willow branches, rushes and bast—are just as central to the festival as the baskets. Parco Rurale San Floriano offers guided visits to the beehives, honey tastings, and the making of a beeswax candle in autumn and winter. It also includes walks through orchards, fruit picking and the preparation of jam.
