The history is particularly vivid at the Canevòn. The building is 16.50 metres wide, 76.80 metres long and 9 metres high. Antonio Cassis Faraone, the Count of Precenicco, built it between 1792 and 1794. It was always used as a granary.
Titiano is the oldest area of the municipality of Precenicco. In Roman times, it was home to a building for pilgrims travelling from Aquileia to the area known as Noricum. The Teutonic Order is also associated with the place: a group was founded here in the 13th century and helped German pilgrims travel from the port of Latisana to the Holy Land. The rectangular hall in Precenicco was built by the Teutonic Knights, who managed the river port there.
The Fort of Precenicco is another part of the town's historical character. The architect Rocchi designed it in 1910. As it was not involved in any combat during the First World War, it remains well preserved to this day.
Cycling along the Stella and through the lagoon
There are various route options for cycling in Precenicco. The Ring of Two Rivers cycle route (R044) follows the Stella River almost to its mouth. It then runs along the river bends and through several lagoon sections on the way back towards Lignano. The Anello Lignano - Marano Lagunare con ritorno via mare cycle route (R027) passes through Precenicco along the Stella River and uses the Marano Lagoon on the return journey to Lignano Sabbiadoro.
During the summer months, R027 becomes a loop when the BICI + BARCA service is operating. The Stella Cycle Circuit (R024) guides cyclists from Latisana railway station towards Precenicco.
Natural areas and local tradition
Bando di Sotto is a remnant of the lowland forests covering approximately 10 hectares. The area preserves part of the ancient lowland forest known as Silva lupanica, which once covered the plain between the Livenza and Isonzo rivers in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
The traditional Festa sul fiume was held every year during the penultimate week of August.
