Churches and Chapels with a Long History
At the entrance to the main town, on the left bank of the Torrente Corno, stands the Santuario Madonna d'Aiuto. The associated church was built in 1655; every year, the religious Perdòn takes place there from August 15 to September 8. The parish church of Santa Maria del Rosario in Corno di Rosazzo dates back to 1400. In Noax, the Chapel of San Giacomo Apostolo dates from the 13th century and was later expanded and restored. The “Casa Medioevale di Noax” was mentioned in connection with the opening of an exhibition featuring selected works by admitted participants, at the historic site of the Church of San Giacomo Apostolo. The Chapel of San Leonardo in Gramogliano dates from the 15th century and was restored in the 18th century. The Chapel of San Michele Arcangelo in Casali Gallo probably dates from the 14th century and was restored at the beginning of the 18th century.
Frescoes, Towers and Historic Villas
San Leonardo is home to two frescoes by Jacum Pitôr, considered a unique example of Friulian naïvism. The Torre di Gramogliano is located in the village of the same name in the municipality of Corno di Rosazzo. Of the five towers originally belonging to the fortification, only one twelve-meter-high tower made of river pebbles remains today. Villa Torriani dates from the same period as the Castello di Gramogliano, built in the 13th century. Villa Nachini - Cabassi dates from around 1720 and houses an information point.
Abbey and Traces Along the Water
The Abbazia di Rosazzo is located in Corno di Rosazzo, in an isolated position on the hills northeast of Manzano. Its fortified complex preserves the Church of San Pietro and a beautiful 16th-century cloister. The abbey church contains frescoes by Francesco India, also known as “Il Moro” and “Torbido”; the frescoes are dated to 1535. In Visinale, the Mulino Cainero lies within the municipality of Corno di Rosazzo on the Judrio River. The original Church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo in Sant'Andrat del Judrio stood within an old fortified enclosure; excavations there brought to light evidence of 12th-century burials.
Events and Historical Memories
According to local tradition, the Italian and Austrian delegations involved in drafting the Cormons armistice ate a simple meal at the Osteria all'Armistizio on July 26, 1866. The Fiera dei Vini di Corno di Rosazzo is held every year. The Premio Noax/Navuàcs is a cultural competition in Noax that reached its 11th edition.
