Forni di Sotto: Discover Mountain Nature, Trails and History

After Forni di Sotto was completely destroyed by a fire in 1944, the town was rebuilt after the war around the fountains of its three districts. It also contains a fresco cycle by Gianfrancesco da Tolmezzo, dated to 1492, depicting the Church Fathers, the martyrdom of Saint Lawrence, the Annunciation and various saints.

The campanile of the Church of Santa Maria del Rosario is a free-standing square tower with clock faces bearing Roman numerals; its belfry has round-arched openings. The ruins of Chiastelàt Castle are also still visible in Forni di Sotto. The fully reconstructed cableway of Val Poschiadea is also located here; it was once used to transport wood from remote forests into the valley. The former function of this cableway is explicitly part of the town's history and should not be equated with a current transport service.
