Palazzolo Dello Stella can be explored from several perspectives: The Stella Cycle Path R024 leads as a waypoint to the Stazione Ferroviaria Palazzolo dello Stella railway station. In some sections, the cycle path runs along level asphalt roads with mixed use, well-rideable gravel paths and cycle paths. If you are travelling by bicycle, you can take these different road surfaces into account when planning your stages.

The Stella River also offers its own perspective. With small boats, you can travel from its mouth to the small, picturesque harbour of Rivarotta. For a slower exploration on foot or by bicycle, the Chiesetta di Sant’Antonio Abate on the embankment of the Turgnano River is a regular destination for cyclists and walkers.

Archaeology in Piancada

Piancada is home to the Museo dello Stella, an archaeological museum in the Casa del Marinaretto. Its collections come largely from excavations of a nearby Neolithic village, which has been studied stratigraphically since 1992. The older settlement history also includes archaeological excavations in Palazzolo dello Stella, where the remains of a Neolithic burial were uncovered and associated with the inhabitants of the village there.

The PdS 010/ UA PALAZZOLO 02 site is a rural villa from Roman times in Piancada-Lamarutto. It contains numerous mosaic tesserae as well as marble slabs used for flooring and wall cladding. Alongside Neolithic traces, you can therefore also encounter Roman architectural culture here.

Chapels and Historic Places

The Chiesetta della Beata Vergine del Suffragio is known for its frescoes from the first half of the 16th century. It has a fully frescoed, barrel-vaulted presbytery. In Piancada, the votive chapel Chiesetta di Sant’Antonio Abate dates from the 15th century. Il Marinaretto was built and inaugurated in 1936 as a training centre for the Balilla Marinaretti.

Roman transport history is also present in Palazzolo dello Stella. The Roman milestone found near the western bank of the Stella River is dedicated to Emperor Constantine, dates from the period after AD 312 and is associated with the distance between Palazzolo and Aquileia. The remains of the Roman bridge of the Via Annia in Palazzolo dello Stella are believed to have had two arches. At Ciasteòn, the place name recalls a completely demolished fortified lowland settlement built by Paleo-Venetian population groups to control the crossing of the Stella River.
