Historical Traces in Santa Maria di Sclaunicco

At the Centa di Santa Maria di Sclaunicco, the fortification wall followed the still-existing oval raised ground around the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta. At the southwestern edge stood a tower approximately ten metres from the church building; it was later converted into a bell tower. Those exploring the local history there should therefore pay attention not only to the church, but also to the oval raised ground and the course of the wall. At the Ai Colonos site, the original building already existed in 1811, during the Napoleonic period.

Art with Light and a Connection to Nature

The “Lûs” installation is created by the shadows of nine slats mounted diagonally on a north-facing wall; the shadows form the italicised Friulian term “Lûs” for “light”. The connection between the wall, its orientation, the slats and the shadows is crucial here: the motif is created by the incidence of light on the north-facing surface. The “Tempio vegetale” is integrated into the natural surroundings around the association’s headquarters. In practical terms, this means that with “Lûs”, the focus is on the wall and the shadows; with the “Tempio vegetale”, on the work in its natural surroundings.

Festivals and Music in the Annual Calendar

The “Sagra dell'olivello spinoso 2026” will take place on 12, 13 and 14 June, as well as on 19, 20 and 21 June, at the Casa Canonica in Santa Maria di Sclaunicco. The six event days fall into two clearly separate blocks in June. As part of “Musica in Villa 2026”, a free concert will follow on 4 September 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at the Corte Casa Canonica in Santa Maria di Sclaunicco, Lestizza. For scheduling purposes, the two dates are in different months.

Routes for Different Walking Distances

The circular route “10 mila passi di salute FVG – LESTIZZA” connects the sports ground in the hamlet of Santa Maria di Sclaunicco with the sports ground in the main village of Lestizza. “A SPAS PAR SANTE MARIE” is a walking event in Santa Maria di Sclaunicco with three routes to choose from: 7, 13 or 19 kilometres; refreshments are available along the routes. The range from 7 to 19 kilometres allows participants to choose according to their preferred walking distance, without equating the formats.
