Historical traces and routes around Ruda

Ruda is a destination for you if you would like to explore history in different places and in various forms. The Villa Iachia complex in Ruda was developed from the 18th century onwards through several successive interventions. Thus, the focus here is not on a single point in time, but on the sequence in which a specific complex has changed.

In Perteole, the Church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo was founded on the ruins of a Late Antique building destroyed by fire. Its foundation is attributed to the 9th century.

The Amideria complex offers another way of observing history. It preserves settling basins, vats and unusual devices. It also features plastered, corrugated wooden ceilings on iron beams, large visible wooden structures, a wooden floor crossed by rails and a maze of stairways. It is precisely this combination of technical elements, materials and spatial structure that makes the complex comprehensible as a tangible place, without requiring you to limit yourself to a single sight.

The Park of Remembrance in Perteole was created in 1995 by the citizens and municipal administration of Ruda as a memorial site. It is located on the remains of a military cemetery dating from 1915. Its creation and location are directly connected here: The park commemorates a historic site while also preserving its connection to the events of 1915.

Castello di Saciletto, a castle, is located in the vicinity of Ruda. Also in the area around Ruda are Roncolon as an ancient site, the Museo Paleocristiano nazionale as a museum, and Castello Alimonda as a castle. This allows you to distinguish between individual townscapes and museum interpretation when planning your excursions, without equating the destinations in terms of their content.

Experience Ruda by bike

A well-marked cycling connection runs along the Cammino Celeste to Ruda. If you plan your stay by bicycle, this provides a specific link between Ruda and a marked route.

A circular route to the parks and gardens of Strassoldo and Villa Iachia begins and ends at Cervignano railway station. The route therefore forms a closed tour with the same starting and ending point. This structure is particularly helpful if you are planning an excursion as a round trip and want to retain Cervignano railway station as your starting point.

Perteole is also connected with a specific historical person: Pietro Antonio Bossi visited the village several times to complete or maintain his first instrument.
