Tarcento: Torre, Monte Bernadia and Friulian Tradition

Tarcento combines the Torre River with paths through the Friulian landscape and traditions in which fire, history and regional specialities come together. Finding your way along the Torre

Tarcento has a riverside promenade along the Torre River. A riverside walking path has benches and lighting at night. The walking path on the right bank has a starting or end point at a new pedestrian bridge; this connects the centre of Ceschia with Via dei Mulini. Paths towards Bernadia

In Sedilis, walks lead through hamlets and farmsteads; paths ascend to the Bernadia ridge and to viewpoints over the Val Torre and the plain. Landscape with a geological history

The Crosis waterfalls are a significant geosite. They came into being after the construction of a hydroelectric plant planned for industrial purposes, designed by Arturo Malignani in 1898.

History in the castle and museum

Coia Castle was built in 1313. After largely collapsing as a result of a severe earthquake in 1520, it now survives only through the remains of a tower; it is also called “Castellaccio” and, in Friulian, “Cjscjelàt”. The Museo archeologico naturalistico in Tarcento presents the local environment and the environment of Friuli through various geological and historical stages of development.

Fire tradition and Friulian flavour

Friulian Epiphany is celebrated annually in Tarcento on 5 and 6 January. This tradition includes races featuring fiery carts, a torch procession to Coia and the lighting of the Pignarûl Grant. Pinza is a rustic traditional sweet pastry of the Friulian Epiphany and is associated with the days of fire, winter and the New Year’s oracles surrounding the Pignarûl Grant. Ramandolo DOCG is one of the designations that characterise this area. It is produced from vineyards on slopes in the hills, where the work continues to be carried out by hand and with patience.
