Tricesimo between Churches, Castles and Green Spaces

Tricesimo combines sacred architecture, medieval sites, public green spaces, a local speciality and a cultural programme. The topics range from churches and frescoes to walls, bridges and corner towers, as well as the Parco comunale Luigi Tami “Eros”, white asparagus and Estate a Villa Ciceri.

Churches and Frescoes

The present-day parish church of Santa Maria della Purificazione was consecrated in 1789 and built according to a design by the architect Domenico Schiavi from Tolmezzo. It was first mentioned in documents in 1234; its likely origins date back to the 7th and 8th centuries.

The Chiesa di San Pelagio in Adorgnano houses an important fresco cycle by Gian Paolo Thanner. The fresco cycle was commissioned in 1535. For those interested in culture, sacred art thus complements the architectural history of the parish church.

Romanesque Origins and Medieval Sites

The Chiesa di San Giorgio is also one of the oldest churches in Tricesimo. Its present-day architecture shows Romanesque origins dating from the 9th to the 12th century. The Castello di Tricesimo has been documented since the 13th century. The Romanesque origins of the Chiesa di San Giorgio therefore date to a different period from the documentary evidence for the Castello di Tricesimo.

At Castello Valentinis, a wall circuit with covered walkways, bridges and six corner towers has been preserved from the medieval complex.

At Castello De Valentinis, a distinction must be made between the different areas: the outdoor areas are open for visits, while the upper rooms can be visited by prior request to the Franciscan nuns. For on-site planning, this request therefore specifically concerns access to the upper rooms.

Green Spaces, a Trail and a Local Speciality

The Parco comunale Luigi Tami “Eros” is a large public green space for leisure, sport and contact with nature. The park thus creates a different focus from Tricesimo’s historic churches and medieval sites.

Cjaminade Furlane a Tresesin was a walking trail with five stations for discovering the area around Tricesimo. The stations gave the trail a fixed sequence, while the park is described as a public green space for leisure, sport and contact with nature.

The white asparagus of Tricesimo is part of the culinary offering. In 1824, the poet Pietro Zorutti praised it for its quality and detoxifying properties. Thus, alongside buildings and green spaces, a specific product from Tricesimo is also at the centre of attention.

Music and Literature at Estate a Villa Ciceri

The 2025 programme of Estate a Villa Ciceri included two concerts, two author talks with readings and musical interludes, as well as a live book; the events took place in the park of Villa Ciceri. In 2025, the Estate a Villa Ciceri event series reached its seventh edition. The 2025 programme thus brought together music, readings and discussions in the park of Villa Ciceri.
