Historical Traces at San Teodoro
The medieval Centa of Trivignano covered the area around the Church of San Teodoro Martire. Only the former watchtower of the Centa has survived; today, it serves as the bell tower of the Church of San Teodoro. At San Teodoro, the traditional site of the medieval Centa and the surviving structure therefore meet directly.
Villa Elodia and Its Park
Villa Elodia is located on the southern edge of Trivignano Udinese. Behind the villa, the park contains various valuable trees and shrubs, a fountain, a small lake and several stone statues. The villa and park provide the village with a second cultural highlight that is not limited to a single building.
Clauiano: Village Structure and Villas
Clauiano has been included in the “Borghi più Belli d’Italia” club. It is also one of the best-preserved rural villages in the Bassa Friulana. In the hamlet of Clauiano, Casa Palladini can be visited on the first Monday of each month from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. by prior appointment. For groups, Villa Manin Guerresco at Via della Filanda 54 offers guided tours of the fresco-decorated piano nobile, the gardens, the private chapel and the rustic outbuilding known as the Foladôr. These tours last approximately 45 minutes to one hour and are available only by prior reservation.
The Flat Cycling Route “Anello delle ville friulane”
The “Anello delle ville friulane” circuit is flat and runs along paved roads, partly on cycle paths and partly on a well-maintained gravel section between Dogana Vecchia and Clauiano. It passes through Merlana or Trivignano Udinese, Dogana Vecchia and Clauiano. When planning the ride, it is therefore important to consider not only the name of the route but also the changes in road surface and traffic arrangements. The flat terrain and changing surfaces give you a clear idea of the character of this circuit.
San Marco and the Roman Past
The history of the surrounding area also includes the rural Church of San Marco. It stands on the route of a Roman consular road that connected Aquileia with Cividale and Noricum. Roman remains of masonry, as well as roof tiles and bricks, were found at the site. This extends the historical perspective beyond the Middle Ages to include the area’s Roman transport history.
