Valpicetto: Fountain Trails, Forest Paths and Historical Traces

Valpicetto is a destination for you if you would like to combine hikes with cultural discoveries. The village brings together an uphill forest path, a largely level fountain trail, viewpoints and tangible evidence of the local architectural history. This allows you to plan your stay according to different interests: with elevation gain and summit views, with fountains and churches, or with a visit to notable buildings.

Hikes with Different Profiles

CAI Trail 225 is 1.5 km long and climbs 300 metres in elevation. It begins near the Church of Santa Barbara, passes through the forest and continues to the junction with Trail 226 at Pradaer. From Valpicetto, the loop to Monte Talm can be started via CAI Trail 225; this loop reaches a scenic summit.

The Rigolato–Magnanins–Valpicetto fountain trail is considered an easy, largely level hike suitable for everyone. From the Fontana Da Placio in Valpicetto, the route can be extended by approximately 200 metres and 40 metres of elevation gain to the Fontana di Santa Barbara and the Church of Santa Barbara. This allows you to distinguish between the level main route and the additional ascent to the church.

Fountains and Churches in the Village

Fontano de Plaço was designed by master mason Vidale Umberto, known as Bert di Toni, and is protected by the heritage authorities. The Lavatoio di Valpicetto has a central fountain with three taps and two wash basins supplied by the fountain.

Visiting the churches along the fountain trails requires prior arrangement with the person responsible for the keys. The Chapel of Santa Barbara is also a scenic viewpoint from which you can look out over the village districts and the valley.

Scenic Road and Local History

A scenic road runs through Valpicetto between Calgaretto and Magnanins. Casa dell'emigrante dates from 1906. Before designing a building, Ruperto Vidale worked in Switzerland; the building he designed had large windows, decorated wood and numerous details of its furnishings.
