Discover Scurano: Trails, Waterfall and Monte Fuso

For hikes, the Monte Fuso area offers the marked CAI hiking trail network “I SENTIERI DEL MONTE FUSO”. Along the routes, natural and historical features are highlighted. This gives a hike an additional sense of discovery beyond the physical activity: the landscape and history are directly connected through the course of the trails, without requiring you to commit to just one way of exploring.

Trails to the Lake and Waterfall

A longer option is the “Percorso Natura” circular route of the Parchi del Ducato. It starts at the Monte Fuso Info Point, is 15.15 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 420 metres. The trail runs along Lago di Scurano. Its abundant aquatic plants provide a habitat for various bird species. The “Percorso Natura” also reaches the Cascata della Grondara; the final section to the waterfall site is covered on foot.

A shorter connection to the Cascata della Grondara leads from the ancient Pieve di Scurano via a walk of less than 1.5 kilometres. The final section runs through the forest. The different distances give you clear guidance for planning your day and may also play a role in choosing accommodation in Scurano if you want to compare longer circular routes with a short walk.

Activities Requiring Registration

The Monte Fuso Wildlife Centre complements the trails with supervised activities. Orienteering activities are organised for beginners, as well as group training sessions for young people and adults and non-competitive runs. These activities are available by prior registration only. In addition, the centre offers introductory archery activities with its own staff, which also take place by prior registration only.

Visitor Centre and Practical Information

The Monte Fuso Wildlife Centre has a visitor centre with an information office, a café-restaurant, an equipped motorhome area, a children’s playground, a picnic area, a classroom and a conference hall. There is also a free electric scooter service for people with motor disabilities. The range of facilities makes the site appealing to families, groups and visitors with different mobility needs, without limiting the stay to a single activity.

Historic Building Complex in Pozzuolo di Scurano

The cultural side of Scurano includes Bastia Fattori in Pozzuolo di Scurano. The historic building complex consists of two tower houses, a loggia and agricultural outbuildings. They are arranged around a courtyard with a central well. The enclosed arrangement of the buildings draws attention to architecture, interior space and rural building history, creating a distinctive feature alongside the nature trails and waterfall destinations.

Important Trail Status

Trail section 762C is closed at the access road to the Cascata della Grondara, at the junction with trail 762D, due to a landslide near the waterfall. This status affects section 762C and is therefore relevant practical information when planning a route to the Cascata della Grondara.
