The Fontana Farnesiana is also known as the Fontana Margaritiana. The Renaissance fountain was commissioned in 1552 by Ottavio Farnese and Margherita of Austria. The year 1552 places the fountain in the 16th century.

Renaissance, Baroque and Buildings from Several Centuries
The Santuario di San Giuseppe da Leonessa is a building begun in 1629 in the Baroque style. Its modern façade creates a clear architectural contrast with its Baroque classification. The body of Saint Giuseppe da Leonessa is preserved in the Santuario. Construction began in the 17th century, while the façade is designed in a modern style.
The Porta Aquilana dates from the 13th century. The Porta Spoletina dates from the 14th century and has a crenellated tower made of pink stone. The two gates are therefore one century apart. The tower adds a distinctive architectural feature to the chronological classification of the Porta Spoletina.
Museum and Surrounding Area
The Museo civico Mauro Zelli reconstructs rural life up to the 1950s. This period is significantly later than the dates of origin of the two gates and the Renaissance fountain. In the vicinity of Leonessa, you will also find the Chiostro di San Francesco, classified as a palace. The historical perspective thus extends from medieval buildings to the 20th century.
