Magliano Sabina: Culture, the Tiber and Sabine Cuisine

Magliano Sabina combines the strongly medieval character of its old town with archaeology, paths through the hilly landscape, experiences along the Tiber and a long-standing culinary tradition. Archaeology and historical traces

The Museo civico archeologico di Magliano Sabina is housed in the Palazzo Gori and extends over three floors. The finds are organised by origin and presented chronologically. The ground floor displays materials from the Middle and Upper Palaeolithic, associated with very old sites along the Tiber. The second floor covers the Hellenistic period, Romanisation and the Middle Ages in the Sabine territories. The Bishop's Palace in Magliano Sabina, built in 1593, is another notable site. Olive oil, wine and traditional dishes

The long-standing cultivation of olives characterises Magliano Sabina. The olive oil carries DOC and DOP designations, while wine production is associated with DOC and IGT wines. Traditional dishes associated with Magliano Sabina include strozzapreti, pasta with chickpeas or beans, polenta with pork padellaccia, mazzafegate and abbacchio a scottadito.
