San Lorenzo and Sacred Heritage

The sacred buildings include the Chiesa di San Lorenzo. It is located above Micigliano and overlooks the local gorge. The building is small and single-naved, with a portico in front. Behind the altar is a fresco depicting the deacon Lorenzo with the grill, the symbol of his martyrdom, beside S. Stefano. An unpaved road leads to the Chiesa di San Lorenzo. The unpaved road adds a concrete feature to the small sacred building's access. The Abbazia dei Santi Quirico e Giulitta lies between the Via Salaria and the Velino River. The first reliable records of the Abbazia SS. Quirico e Giulitta date from 984. It is said to have been founded by Benedictines in the first half of the 10th century. The complex features Romanesque architectural elements; its exterior preserves the old fortified structure.

The Museo civico delle Arti e Tradizioni popolari opened in 1997. Alongside the church and abbey, a more recent museum is therefore also part of Micigliano's cultural offering.
