Passo Corese between the Tiber Valley and Remembrance
Passo Corese is a district of Fara in Sabina (Rieti) in the Tiber Valley. Its character can be understood through several concrete aspects: a railway line, historical memorial sites, and recurring sporting and cultural events. Orientation and Historical Connections
Fara Sabina-Montelibretti railway station is located in Passo Corese and lies on the Florence–Rome railway line. When choosing a hotel in the district, this station can be a natural geographical reference point for personal planning. The history of Passo Corese extends beyond its transport connections: the area played an important role in the 1867 campaign in the Agro Romano.
From Passo Corese, Enrico and Giovanni Cairoli and their 76 companions began their descent along the Tiber on October 22. At the beginning of Via Garibaldi, there is also a modest monument with an old inscription whose text is attributed to Giovanni Bovio. Both sites give historical exploration a concrete connection within the district.
Memorial Sites with Visible Traces
A special memorial shrine bears the name “Edicola in ricordo della Chiesa del Divino Amore di Passo Corese.” It commemorates the bombings during the Second World War that affected Passo Corese and local families. The shrine stands in the area where the Chiesa del Divino Amore, destroyed by bombs, once stood.
The memorial shrine is designed in a Neo-Gothic contemporary style. It consists mainly of brick and stone; the three plaques are made of marble. It was erected on June 17, 1954. In 2013, it was rebuilt, while the original plaques were preserved. Another historical connection is Villa Traversa: the building in Passo Corese was renovated in 1993 with funding from the Lazio Region and subsequently became the new home of the Biblioteca Comunale Abate Alano. The library offers interlibrary and intersystem lending.
Events between Tradition and Movement
On July 11 and 12, 2026, the XVII Festa della Trebbiatura will take place in Piazza Salvo D'Acquisto in Passo Corese. It is organized by the Associazione Amici della Piazza to revive rural traditions. This gives the area's history an explicitly communal and festive dimension.
Sporting events are also part of the picture in Passo Corese. “Colli della Sabina” is a mountain bike tour held every year on April 25 in Passo Corese; in 2025, the 14th edition was held. Around the mountain bike gathering, it includes additional services. The 17th Corri Cures is a running competition in Passo Corese and has been included in the Circuito Run 2026. Its route passes through the greenery of the Sabine Hills. This series is complemented by Passo Corese By Night, a group training run covering 5.5 kilometers.
