Pine Forest and Coastal Area

Lido Dei Pini owes its name to the Pineta della Gallinara, which occupies an important part of the area. The pine forest and coastal area represent two distinct landscape features within Lido dei Pini.

The stretch of coast between Anzio, Lido dei Pini, Lavinio and the Tor Caldara Nature Reserve is being studied to record and monitor loggerhead sea turtles of the species Caretta caretta. The area under study therefore includes several named coastal towns and extends to the Tor Caldara Nature Reserve. It is not limited to Lido dei Pini but extends across the entire stretch mentioned.

In the “Lido dei Pini” camping area, 202 trees were treated; outside the “Lido dei Pini” camping area, the figure was 496. This means that 294 more trees were treated outside the camping area than inside it; the figures refer to the “Lido dei Pini” camping area and the area outside the camping area.

Beach and Water Sports

The La Capannina kitesurfing spot is located in front of the “La Capannina 3” beach resort. The beach is very wide and completely flat. Large parking areas are part of the spot. It is easily accessible from the Litoranea (Via Laurentina).

At its location in Lido dei Pini, KitePoint offers courses in kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing and SUP. The range of courses therefore covers the four named disciplines at one location in Lido dei Pini; the La Capannina kitesurfing spot, on the other hand, is located in front of the “La Capannina 3” beach resort.

Kitesurfing and windsurfing are wind-dependent disciplines. SUP stands for stand-up paddling, meaning paddling while standing on a board.

Reminders of the Area’s History

The site where the Pineta della Gallinara was later established was the scene of fighting between opposing armies. Numerous objects from the period between January 22 and May 26, 1944, were collected in the Pineta della Gallinara, including cartridge cases and identification tags. The finds link the Pineta to a precisely dated period of local and wartime history.

A collection of World War II relics is displayed in showcases at the Casa Consortile on Via dei Tulipani. Prior registration with the Consorzio secretariat is required for a visit. The exhibition is therefore located at a specifically named place within the area and should be distinguished from the site where the objects were found in the Pineta.

The parish of Parrocchia dell’Assunzione della Beata Vergine Maria is also located in the Lido dei Pini area. Thus, in addition to the historical references, a religious site within the area is also identified.
