Historic town centre and beaches

In the historic centre of Celle Ligure, residential buildings and structures of considerable historic and artistic value line the characteristic Ligurian lanes known as “caruggi”. The term caruggi refers to the characteristic lanes that shape the townscape. In front of the historic town centre is an equipped beach, accessible from Lungomare Colombo. Celle Piani has a sandy beach; there is also a free beach near the eastern end of the artificial breakwater.

Walking routes for different day plans

The Passeggiata Romana is a short, challenging panoramic trail above the sea. It connects the junction of Via Trentun and Via Crocetta on the Celle Piani side with the beginning of Via Alla Costa, at the level of the railway bridge on the side of Celle town centre. The “Anello delle sette chiese” circular route is approximately 15 km long, has an elevation gain of 500 m and can be completed in full or in sections. The two route descriptions therefore offer different options for planning a day outdoors.

Art, crafts and local history

The Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Michele houses a 19th-century nativity scene by Antonio Brilla; its terracotta figures depict scenes from everyday life. The apse of the same church contains the polyptych “San Michele e i Santi”, painted by Perin del Vaga in 1535.

The ancient Oratorio di San Michele is associated with the designation “domus disciplinatorum” from the second half of the 16th century. It also houses a polychrome wooden processional statue of San Michele Arcangelo, created by Anton Maria Maragliano in 1694.

The ceramic tradition in Celle Ligure was already established in the 18th century. On Lungomare Pertini, the “Artisti per la matematica” art and educational trail features 32 ceramic works on mathematical themes, accompanied by technical information sheets.

During the celebration of the birth of John the Baptist, characteristic bonfires rooted in rural culture can be seen on 24 June.

Breaks and orientation on site

Pineta Bottini has benches with views, a picnic area, children's play equipment, accessible toilets and drinking fountains. These facilities make it a clearly defined option for a break catering to different needs.

These highlights can be arranged according to your preferred pace for the day. One day may focus on the historic townscape, while another may be devoted to the Passeggiata Romana or the circular route. Beaches, ceramics and Pineta Bottini offer further options combining time outdoors with cultural activities. The choice of focus can be guided by your own pace and interests.
