Discover Selino Basso: Trails, Churches and Sant’Omobono Terme

Selino Basso combines outdoor trails with a multifaceted local church and cultural history. The Sentiero da Selino Basso hiking trail is part of the Cammini del Cuore routes of the Santuario Madonna della Cornabusa. Churches from different construction periods, Cà Mazzoleni in the surrounding area and the museum of the Santuario della Cornabusa each add their own historical highlights.

Outdoor trails and activities

The Percorso Vita begins in Selino Basso and runs along the Torrente Imagna through Rota d’Imagna, Locatello and Corna Imagna. The trail is 10 kilometres long, surrounded by greenery and designed for cyclists and pedestrians. The Percorso Vita also includes areas for sporting activities. Equipped picnic areas complement the trail and create a clear connection with longer stays outdoors. Those planning the entire route can use the ten kilometres as a fixed total distance and distribute their breaks among the existing areas. A route of this length can also be planned as a complete section or in stages.

Parking areas and rest areas are available along the Percorso Vita. For Valle Imagna Easy, route files can be downloaded in PGX or KML format. The two formats are used to view the route digitally before setting out. This makes it possible to divide the trail into individual sections in advance and adjust your timing to the length of the route. Those planning to cycle or walk the route can use the digital file as an additional aid for orientation on site.

Churches and historical traces

The churches of Selino Basso reflect several construction periods. The existing Church of Santa Maria Immacolata was expanded to two naves in 1979. The new parish church of Santa Maria Immacolata was built in 1991 to a design by the architect Pasquale Bruno. The parish of Selino Basso was established by a decree dated 31 July 1951. The establishment of the parish therefore predates the information about the expansion and the new construction.

In the area around Selino Basso, Cà Mazzoleni was once an aristocratic residence. In the municipality of Sant'Omobono Terme, the museum of the Santuario della Cornabusa preserves old votive tablets in a folk style. The Santuario della Cornabusa can be reached by car or on foot via a path from Cepino. The sanctuary is therefore accessible both by car and via the path from Cepino. The former function of Cà Mazzoleni as an aristocratic residence belongs to the past.

Thermal tradition in Sant’Omobono Terme

The thermal waters of Sant’Omobono Terme come from a sulphur spring that emerges from bituminous limestone. The thermal baths of Sant’Omobono Terme have been known and valued since the 18th century.
