Carimate combines sacred architectural heritage, Castello di Carimate, the Torchio, golf and literary events. This gives you several concrete ways to plan your trip: you can place the history of the churches and castle in its historical context, get to know cultural venues and explore the development of Golf Club Carimate.

Church and Architectural Heritage

The present-day parish church of Chiesa di San Giorgio e dell’Immacolata Concezione dates from 1752 to 1755. It was built on the ruins of an older church dedicated to San Giorgio and dating from the 14th century. This makes it possible to see Carimate’s layers of history in a specific building: the 18th-century church and its 14th-century predecessor. For those interested in cultural history, this connection provides a clear entry point into the history of the town.

Castello and Torchio

Castello di Carimate is currently used as an event venue. From 1976 to 1986, Stone Castle Studios operated in Castello di Carimate. The Torchio complex was built opposite Castello di Carimate at the end of the 19th century. The Torchio was later redesigned and became Carimate’s cultural and commercial centre. The Cappella Gentilizia della famiglia Arnaboldi was built in 1876, adding another clearly dated building to the architectural history. For orientation, the present-day use, studio era and architectural development of the Castello and Torchio are connected here.

Golf Between Architecture and Plants

Golf Club Carimate also has a clearly datable history of development. The first nine holes were laid out in 1962, and the second nine three years later. The clubhouse was completed in 1962 by architects Vico Magistretti and Guido Veneziani. The golf course passes through botanical grounds containing ten thousand plants. For those interested in golf, this provides a precise picture of the site: the club’s history includes the successive construction phases of the holes, the clubhouse completed by two architects and the plants along the course.

Literature and Events

The Club del Libro di Carimate meets once a month to discuss the selected book and exchange opinions. The literary series “Un castello di libri” takes place in the Piazzetta del Torchio, Piazza Castello 4, Carimate. The “Castelli in aria” festival also takes place at this address, in the Salone e Corte del Torchio. Anyone wishing to include cultural events in their travel plans will find different formats here: a monthly book exchange, a literary series and a festival.

Connection Through the Serenza Valley

A restored path connects Novedrate with Carimate and leads through the Serenza Valley. This means that, for planning purposes, Carimate can be viewed from several perspectives: through its church and architectural heritage, venues, golf, literature or the path through the Serenza Valley.
