Trezzone: Mountain Views, Historic Paths and Local Culture
Trezzone is located in the mountains of Sorico between the slopes of Pizzo Sasso Canale and the Valle di Gera. Panoramic views extend across Alto Lario and the surrounding mountains. The town therefore combines a mountain landscape with paths and historic townscapes that can be incorporated into different daily itineraries.
Historic Townscape and Sacred Heritage
The historic centre of Trezzone has largely been preserved. Stone houses, covered passageways, high staircases and underpasses shape the townscape; cobbled lanes branch off from the Via Regina.
The sacred buildings include the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, which was built in the 15th century. It preserves Baroque elements created thanks to the generosity of emigrants to Palermo. The complex of the Chiesa di S. Maria delle Grazie comprises the church and its bell tower. Emigrants from Trezzone who went to Palermo between the 16th and 19th centuries also brought the cult of Santa Rosalia to the town.
Paths through the Mountains of Trezzone
The Via dei Monti Lariani leads across the Monti di Trezzone. The section there follows a scenic path with views of the lake and is marked in white and red. The Via Regina reaches Aurogna, a hamlet of Trezzone, and runs along paths, cobbled mule tracks, paved roads and, in some sections, local roads. Its route leads from Gera Lario to Domaso via Vercana and Trezzone. For planning a day’s itinerary, these types of paths can be considered separately; a cobbled mule track, paved roads and local sections have a different character from the marked path with lake views.
Another connection is the Monti di Vercana route: an old, partly cobbled path leads via Trezzone to Gera Lario. The partly cobbled old path of the Monti di Vercana route can therefore be planned differently according to its surface than the Via Regina with its changing types of paths.
Aurogna and Its Historic Structure
As a hamlet of Trezzone, Aurogna has preserved its historic structure with high stone houses, covered passageways, wall frescoes and narrow cobbled lanes. Together with the historic centre of Trezzone, this creates a townscape in which stone building elements, staircases, passages and old paths appear closely interconnected.
Traditional Cuisine in the Parish Hall
