Brallo Di Pregola Between Rocks and Valley Views
Brallo Di Pregola brings together landscape, history and regional characteristics within a small area. From the black rocks known as Sassi Neri, Pregola overlooks the Staffora Valley. This provides an initial view of a distinctive relationship with the landscape, while the village offers historical traces and specific opportunities for different travel interests. When choosing a hotel in Brallo Di Pregola, you can assess the area according to these focal points: nature, trails, history or sport.
Malaspina History in the Village Center
In the Middle Ages, the castle of the Malaspina marquises was built on the rocky outcrop of Pregola. The original fortress was destroyed by a fire toward the end of the 17th century. The present-day Casaforte was built in place of the fortress; it stands in the meadows on the edge of the village center of Pregola. The castle, fire and Casaforte form a historical arc that makes the development of the village tangible.
Landscape and Trails
Pregola is part of the areas of the Appennino Pavese with outcrops of ophiolitic rock. For you, this provides a distinct way of experiencing the landscape: the village can be viewed not only through its valley views, but also through its geological character.
Two different trail routes complement this landscape. Trail 116 connects Pregola with Trail 115 shortly before Casone. The easy Montagnola circular trail leads to the outskirts of Pregola, then reaches the road to Dezza and returns to Brallo.
Sports Center, Summer Camps and Church
Il Brallo is a tourist sports center in the Pregola hamlet at an altitude of 1,050 meters. Il Brallo has been a traditional location for FITP summer camps for more than 50 years. In addition to tennis, the summer program includes beach tennis, archery, five-a-side football, volleyball and basketball. This makes a sporting focus visible in the Pregola hamlet that extends beyond a single activity.
Pregola is also home to a church dedicated to Saints Agatha and Roch.
Local Flavor in September
Local cuisine also has a clear seasonal connection. The Sagra della Patata in Brallo di Pregola takes place every year on the second Sunday in September. In the municipality of Brallo di Pregola, Patata di Cencerate is still produced in small quantities in one of the hamlets.
