Garlasco: Discover Culture, Churches and Nature

Garlasco combines medieval architecture, sacred art and experiences in nature. Right at the outset, the Torrione makes a striking impression: the medieval square tower has a passageway beneath the structure, spanned by a double vault. The historical and natural attractions give a stay a range of different highlights.

Buildings and Sacred Art

The surviving brick-built gate tower is the most significant and most easily recognisable surviving element of the former castle of Garlasco. The parish church of Beata Vergine Assunta was designed in 1715 by the architect Gerolamo Regina from Pavia. Its Corinthian style, three naves and large dome define its architectural appearance. The Church of Santissima Trinità is a late-17th-century religious building with Baroque forms and four side chapels housing 18th-century marble altars.

The Centro Socio-Culturale “Martinetti” is designed for meetings, conferences, courses, lessons, and artistic, historical and general educational exhibitions. Since 2013, it has had a fully equipped exhibition space dedicated to Italo Bonacossa. The Teatro Martinetti also makes its own architectural statement: its architecture is a fascinating imitation of the great opera houses of the 19th century, while the façade on Via Santissima Trinità features classical elements inspired by the Renaissance.

Places of Faith and Nature

The Santuario Madonna della Bozzola contains wooden statues from the 18th century in an interior chapel, depicting figures from the Compianto sul Cristo morto. This site adds another collection of religious art to the churches and historic buildings.

The Oasi LIPU Bosco del Vignolo is a protected nature area surrounded by rice fields and covering more than 25 hectares. To explore it, Bosco del Vignolo has a visitor centre, signposted and easy-to-walk paths, and information boards about the area's habitats, flora and fauna. This natural setting particularly appeals to travellers who want to combine landscapes and wildlife observation with a culturally focused stay.

Rice and Regional Events

RisoMania is a recurring rice festival in Garlasco. The fourth edition will take place on 6 and 7 June 2026 and includes show cooking, risottate and culinary competitions. The event has a clear culinary focus and highlights rice as its local theme.

Residenza d'Epoca is a palace in the area around Garlasco. Casa Bellazzi, a palace, and Castello Sforzesco, a castle, are also located nearby. Parco Parri is a park in the area around Garlasco.
